White people –
We have fought everyone else
It’s time to fight ourselves
Not amongst ourselves
Ourselves

We must wrestle our individual and collective demons

We must question what inner hatred and fear
Pushed our ancestors to commit such heinous acts
And root out any trace of it
Still remaining in our own hearts

This is decolonization:
Grieving
Forgiving
And ultimately destroying
The genocidal colonizer
The slave holder
The fearful racist
The prideful patriot
The mindless consumer
And the privileged, complicit fool
That live inside of you

(It is as violent or as gentle as it needs to be
You are stronger than you think)

The beliefs may have evolved
But the emotions, values, actions
Have left their scars

We must fight ourselves,
Heal ourselves
To end the cycle
Of redirecting pain outward
